The study found that women becoming the breadwinner resulted in a higher risk of mental health issues for both partners, especially for husbands, indicating a complex relationship between income dynamics and well-being.
'In the most restrictive specification, the likelihood increases by approximately 8% for the whole sample and by 11% for men,' highlighting the substantial impact on male mental health when wives earn more.
Since the start of the millennium, the trend of wives earning more has risen by approximately 25% in both the United States and Sweden, yet mental health implications remain less understood.
