Unofficial Shrinks Are the Unsung Heroes of Work

The article explores the reality of workplace dynamics, emphasizing the significant amount of time individuals spend with colleagues over loved ones. Often, this leads to interpersonal challenges due to competition and differing personalities, which can amplify stress. One in five individuals faces mental health challenges, complicating group dynamics further. Yet, amidst these difficulties, certain individuals exhibit qualities of unofficial therapists, contributing to a collaborative spirit and helping organizations function effectively. They take it upon themselves to foster a supportive environment, highlighting the need for acknowledgment and appreciation of their contributions in the workplace.
Human personalities hardly mitigate the challenge. Everyone has experienced a work colleague (or 10) so awful that we spend as much time ruminating about them as working with them.
Fortunately, most organizations have enough pressure valves. Unfortunately, most don't even notice. They are the unofficial therapists of organizations, and their work is how companies are able to get stuff done.
