Treatment for children with obesity has lasting effect
Briefly

A study from Karolinska Institutet highlights that children with obesity who successfully undergo treatment see lower risks of obesity-related diseases and premature death in young adulthood. Treatment included behavioral lifestyle therapy focusing on healthy diets, exercise, and sleep. Although effective in improving physical health outcomes, the study revealed that these treatments had no positive effect on the prevalence of depression and anxiety in young adults, emphasizing the need for an integrated approach that addresses both physical and mental health issues arising from childhood obesity.
This emphasises the importance of providing early treatment, as we know that timely intervention increases the likelihood of success and helps mitigate the long-term health risks associated with obesity.
The results are very good news. Whether or not the treatment of obesity in childhood has long-term health benefits have been debated, since weight-loss is hard to maintain.
