Seven in 10 GPs in UK suffer from compassion fatigue, survey finds
Briefly

A survey found that 71% of GPs and 62% of all medics experience compassion fatigue, compromising the quality of care and affecting patient safety.
Dr. John Holden stated, 'Compassion fatigue is effectively a hidden, secondary trauma... making it extraordinarily difficult for family doctors to treat their patients.'
Prof. Clare Gerada explained that compassion fatigue leads to emotional detachment, a decreased ability to empathize, and feelings of being overwhelmed by job demands.
Nearly two-thirds of medics (64%) and 77% of GPs reported that compassion fatigue negatively impacted their ability to communicate with patients.
