Fifteen hospital trusts in England have over 200 patients waiting over a year for heart procedures, with waiting lists at a record high of 414,596. The British Heart Foundation is concerned about the increasing delays, which could lead to avoidable heart complications or premature deaths.
The number of deaths in England before age 75 from heart and circulatory diseases has reached the highest level in a decade. In 2022, over 39,000 people died prematurely from cardiovascular conditions, putting significant pressure on NHS care and contributing to avoidable deaths.
