Crypt density and recruited enhancers underlie intestinal tumour initiation
Briefly

The present study uncovers that adenomas do not inevitably arise from Apc deletion in intestinal stem cells but rather hinge on the spatial organization of mutant intestinal crypts, indicating that physical proximity is crucial for tumor development.
Cis-regulatory elements undergo substantial modification in the context of Wnt signaling hyperactivation, revealing a selective activation of enhancers in adenoma-resident intestinal stem cells, which are not active in Apc-null counterparts.
