The new art installation, featuring 726 unique plaster cast face masks by Teresa Margolles, aims to honor the trans community and draw attention to their struggles.
Ms. Margolles stated, "We are giving faces to them all" to signify the visibility of trans and gender variant individuals often ignored in broader society.
Highlighting the importance of representation, Margolles shared, "Instead of doing one piece in her memory, I wanted to do something to represent the whole trans community."
The masks are designed to deteriorate over two years, symbolizing the fragility of life and the ongoing struggles faced by marginalized communities.
