Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Threads, announced that it will no longer recommend political content to users, which will impact the visibility of journalism during election years.
"This announcement expands on years of work on how we approach and treat political content based on what people have told us they wanted," Meta spokesperson Dani Lever told the Washington Post.
Facebook, also owned by Meta, has changed its algorithm to reduce the amount of news content on users' feeds, partly due to criticism of spreading misinformation and extremism.
