Finnish startup Distance Technologies has developed innovative mixed reality (MR) technology that transforms transparent surfaces into interactive displays. Teaming up with Patria, they are trialing this technology on armoured vehicles, particularly focusing on developing a heads-up display for tactical operations. This system will allow military personnel to view vital information directly on their windshields, enhancing visibility in challenging environments. With a capability for head-tracking and using contextual AI, soldiers can receive real-time, relevant data, ultimately improving decision-making and operational effectiveness while keeping their positions covert, reducing visual footprint in combat scenarios.
"Creating XR heads-up displays that visualise mission-critical information on the windshield offers unprecedented speed, confidence, and decision-making ability on the battlefields of the future."
"Unlike standard heads-up displays in cars, which project static or pre-determined information onto the windshield, Distance's technology tracks the user's eye movements."
