John Gentry died on January 14 after a long battle with cancer. He served as CEO of OpenX for six years and led the company during its antitrust lawsuit against Google over the digital ad market. He previously served as president of Spot Runner and chief revenue officer of Green Dot. He held a BA in political science from UCLA and an MBA from Kellogg. Colleagues remembered him as people-focused, playful, and mischievous. He loved puppies, enjoyed gossip sessions, used his Ring cam to playfully startle his children, and organized lighthearted office stunts to boost team morale.
