Canada's Competition Bureau is suing Google over alleged anticompetitive conduct, forcing the company to potentially sell its ad tech services and address market dominance.
The bureau argues that Google's 90% market share in publisher ad servers and 70% in advertiser networks has discouraged competition and inflated costs.
Commissioner Matthew Boswell asserted, "Google has abused its dominant position...by engaging in conduct that locks market participants into using its own ad tech tools."
The Competition Tribunal will now oversee the lawsuit, tasked with ruling on allegations made under the Competition Act and the need for structural changes in Google's business.
