X transparency report looks like 'last-ditch effort to win back advertisers,' experts say
Briefly

X, formerly Twitter, published its Global Transparency Report revealing significant increases in content violation reports but a much smaller rise in account suspensions since Elon Musk's acquisition.
The report highlights that, while there were over 224 million reports of content during the first half of 2024, only 5.3 million accounts were suspended, raising questions about content moderation practices.
Under Musk's leadership and as a self-described free speech absolutist, the platform significantly reduced moderation of hate speech, addressing only 2,361 accounts compared to 1 million under previous management.
The report raises concerns about the effectiveness of X's content moderation strategy, particularly given that only a small fraction of reported violations are leading to actual enforcement.
