TikTok Expands In-Stream Shopping Push to Latin America
Briefly

Despite facing existential challenges in the U.S. and Canada, TikTok is launching TikTok Shop in Mexico, marking its entry into the Latin American market. This expansion is part of TikTok's broader in-stream shopping strategy. Merchants in Mexico began opening stores on the platform in January, and transactions are set to start this week, with an initial 90-day exemption from commission fees for locally registered entities. However, some goods, such as jewelry and healthcare products, will be restricted in this new venture.
TikTok Shop first started inviting merchants to open stores on the platform in Mexico in January ahead of the start of transactions in February.
These merchants, with a locally registered entity, were eligible to sign up and be exempt from commission fees for the first 90 days of commercial activity.
