Meta is rolling out a much-requested tap-to-pause feature for Instagram Reels, enabling users to pause videos effortlessly with a single tap, improving user experience. Previously, users could only pause videos by holding down the screen, which was more cumbersome. Currently, this feature is being tested with a limited group globally. The addition responds to user pressures and aims to attract TikTok users amidst concerns over TikTok's future availability, as rumors circulate about a potential ban. Other updates from Instagram include changes to profile grids and a new video editing app called Edits.
Unlike TikTok, Instagrammers previously were only able to pause a video by holding down the screen, requiring more effort and not allowing users to move their fingers from their screens in order to keep it paused.
'hello @instagram, can I please request a pause button on reels?? sincerely, a grieving former TikTok scroller,' one person posted on X during the recent temporary TikTok shutdown.
