Mexico City introduces bloodless bullfighting' in win for animal rights activists
Briefly

Mexico City's congress has voted to replace traditional bullfights with bloodless spectacles, marking a significant legal shift in animal rights. Activists hailed the decision, acknowledging that while it does not abolish bullfighting entirely, it alleviates the violence inflicted upon bulls. The largest bullring, Plaza Mexico, will host these new events, which limit interactions to 15 minutes and prohibit bull deaths. This change emerged from a citizens' initiative adapted by city officials, aiming to protect local jobs while transforming cultural practices that involve animal suffering.
Bulls will no longer be subjected to the brutal cruelty of being repeatedly stabbed and ultimately killed in the ring, which we welcome, said Anton Aguilar.
The spectacle of blood cannot be justified under any concept of art and tradition, said Brugada, advocating for a cultural transformation in Mexico City.
