PG&E prepares to potentially cut power to 28,000 California customers
Briefly

PG&E is preparing to intentionally cut power as early as Thursday to thousands of customers in California to reduce hazards from power lines amid heightened wildfire risk, the utility company said.
The preemptive power shutoffs come as breezy offshore winds are forecast to develop at a time of year when the vegetation on the ground is dry and highly flammable.
De-energizing the power lines lowers the risk of wildfires starting. PG&E said it will likely begin the preemptive power shutoffs Thursday night when the winds are expected to develop.
The winds are expected to pick up as a storm system known as an 'inside slider' drops down from the Pacific Northwest and digs into California before pushing into the Great Basin.
