Tenants of the Pearl Apartments in Marina del Rey are suing the landlord and security firm for negligence and emotional distress, claiming the shooting incident was preventable due to prior reported bizarre behavior from the shooter.
The lawsuit claims that Equity Residential and Protection America failed to act on multiple reports of the tenant's violent behavior leading up to the April 13 incident, resulting in emotional distress for the tenants.
No injuries occurred during the incident, but about 50 tenants allege that the landlord and security firm breached their duty of care and did not coordinate effectively with law enforcement to ensure safety.
Victoryloc Nguyen, armed and dangerous, fired indiscriminately from his unit, prompting multiple tenants to raise alarms about his behavior, leading to the current lawsuit against the responsible parties.
