As the first major atmospheric river storm of the season impacts Northern California, rain totals could surpass 12 inches, posing risks of flooding and mudslides.
"In Southern California, the chances for rain have increased, with confidence in measurable amounts as early as this weekend and continuing into next week," forecasters said.
Following the recent Mountain fire that damaged over 350 homes, meteorologist Bryan Lewis expressed optimism, stating, "We're thinking it's going to be more of a beneficial rain."
Rain is forecast for the region starting Friday, with varying amounts expected: Los Angeles could see a tenth to a third of an inch on Saturday.
