The city has agreed to purchase five fire department vehicles for $9.5 million to replace aging fleet vehicles, maintaining diesel for cost reasons.
Fire department's aspiration is to adopt an all-electric fleet but short-term costs and necessary infrastructure upgrades make it a challenging goal.
The city will finance these purchases through a lease-purchase agreement, paying off the new vehicles over a seven-year period.
Due to pandemic supply chain issues, the lead time for the delivery of the vehicles is currently approximately 48 months.
