Tenants to be rehomed after 'life-changing' fire
"The smoke destroyed everything. We've probably lost everything."
"I just feel so very, very sorry for the residents involved and I know that this is life-changing for them."
"the very best of the council coming together to give them all the very personalised care and attention that they needed"
"pride and gratitude in all of the staff who turned out on the night and who have turned out since"
A fire on 10 September ripped through the fourth floor and roof of Fox House on Maysoule Road in Battersea. More than 100 firefighters tackled the blaze. Parts of the building were destroyed and about 150 residents have been living in hotels. Wandsworth Council, which owns the block, offered permanent council homes to almost all residents who held secure lifetime tenancies, offering alternatives to roughly 27 of 29 households. The council provided emergency accommodation and vouchers and continues to support other affected residents with rehousing. Residents reported losing possessions and councillors and housing staff praised the emergency response.
