Two Metropolitan Police officers were exonerated of misconduct after the tragic death of Omishore, who jumped from Chelsea Bridge following a mental health crisis. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) concluded their investigation with no evidence supporting disciplinary action against the officers. A jury at his inquest ruled that his death resulted from drowning complications. The IOPC noted that the officers acted based on their belief that Omishore might have posed a threat, as they interpreted it as a potential terrorist incident during a high-profile weekend.
We found no indication that either officer may have behaved in a manner that would justify disciplinary proceedings or had committed a criminal offence relating to their actions at the scene.
Officers are allowed to use force when they honestly believe it is necessary to defend themselves or others... the evidence suggested that the officers honestly and reasonably believed Mr Omishore was in possession of a weapon.
