Lathaniel, a 16-year-old boy, was fatally shot on Paradise Road in Stockwell, London, on March 4. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen, disguised as delivery drivers on a moped, opened fire after confronting two boys. Despite attempts by emergency services, Lathaniel was pronounced dead shortly after. Family and community members described him as a bright young man and a Manchester United fan. The incident has raised significant concerns about safety in the neighborhood, highlighting issues related to violent crime involving youth.
A man who said he was the boy's uncle, who asked not to be named, claimed the gunmen posed as delivery drivers. He said: They came on a moped dressed as Deliveroo drivers.
An eyewitness told BBC London that two boys came down the stairs at a block of flats when the moped rider took out a gun and fired.
Another resident who knew Lathaniel said she was distressed to hear the news, saying that her own son had also died in a stabbing a few years ago.
She said: This area is not safe at night. There are a lot of teenage boys that cause a lot of trouble who live around here.
