Wet Leg's front woman Rhian Teasdale speaks about her sexuality in a new interview, coinciding with the announcement of the band's second album, Moisturizer, and UK tour. Teasdale, who identifies as queer, reflects on meeting her partner, who is non-binary, at a festival in 2021, describing it as love at first sight. She shares insights into her experience of queer love and how it informs her songwriting, noting the challenges of writing love songs about men, as well as her perceptions of female-presenting queer relationships.
It was love at first sight... it always comes when you least expect it.
The thing with queer love is that, if you're female-presenting, people assume you're best friends.
It just feels so much more empowering to write it about a non-man.
I found it difficult to write one lusting over a guy... maybe that was something in my subconscious that was just... very gay.
