Transport for London (TfL) has introduced coverings behind benches on select Elizabeth line platforms to address cleanliness issues caused by passenger contact, which left visible grease and dirt marks, referred to as 'ghost marks.' Initially implemented at Bond Street, Farringdon, and Liverpool Street stations, the coverings feature moquette-inspired designs that also highlight priority seating areas. This measure aims to safeguard the platform walls while enhancing the overall passenger experience, responding to concerns raised about station maintenance and cleanliness since the line's opening in May 2022.
The coverings have been put up to protect the Elizabeth line platform walls from dirt and grease left behind by passengers. These stylish new moquette-inspired designs will enhance the customer experience by protecting the areas behind the seats.
A rigorous cleaning programme is maintained at all of TfL's stations to ensure a clean and safe environment for customers. TfL is exploring new ways to clean the walls behind seating to remove any marks and protect the walls.
