Transport for London's property arm, Places for London, has unveiled plans for a new restaurant in the unused rear section of Brixton Underground station. Previously utilized by Tube workers, this area aims to rejuvenate the space near Electric Lane. The proposal is designed to deter antisocial behaviour by avoiding takeaway services. Planning documents suggest this move will not only provide a new amenity but enhance the building's appearance, addressing its current negative contribution to Brixton's conservation area. The restaurant's hours are set from 10:00 to 23:00 on weekdays and until midnight on weekends, pending Lambeth Council's approval.
The proposal for a change of the rear part of Brixton Underground station would create an attractive new restaurant in the centre of Brixton.
The enhanced frontage would improve the appearance of a building which is currently identified to make a negative contribution to the character and appearance of the Brixton conservation area.
