Derelict railway arches in Walthamstow are being turned into an eating, drinking and shopping destination
Briefly

The planning committee has officially approved plans to transform unused railway arches at Courtenay Place into a vibrant hub of restaurants, cafés, and retail spaces. This initiative, part of the St James Quarter regeneration project, seeks to enhance public space with better lighting, signage, and art, connecting St James Street station to Walthamstow High Street. With support from the UK Government and local council, this redevelopment aims to revitalize the area while providing improved amenities, including accessible toilets and business opportunities.
Council approval for the renovation of derelict railway arches at Courtenay Place will transform them into vibrant spaces for dining and retail along a new green link.
The project, led by architects Feix&M Merlin and Extended Studio, aims to create a public space with improved facilities, transforming a previously neglected area into a community hub.
