"This is just not sustainable. Neither from a service delivery perspective, nor from a financial one," said Conservative councillor Jason Frost regarding the staff sickness levels at Havering Council.
"Council staff are the lifeblood of the organisation. Without them, the many vital services that residents rely on simply will not function," Frost emphasized, pointing out the importance of staff for effective service delivery.
The council acknowledged that "the wellbeing of our staff is paramount," but admitted that increased pressures and reduced funding were causing detrimental effects, including staff sickness.
According to reports, Havering Council loses around 10 days in sickness on average per employee, placing them with the seventh highest sickness rate in London, highlighting ongoing challenges.
