A house fire in Cunninghams Lane left 12 people hospitalized, including two women in critical condition. Emergency services rescued four individuals from inside the burning structure, while a fifth was found on the roof. The police are investigating the cause of the fire, with a suspect arrested for arson. Community members assisted during the traumatic incident, and a continued emergency presence has been promised as the situation develops. Thankfully, the responding officers received treatment for smoke inhalation but were released shortly after.
The PSNI said: "The property was seen to be well alight...officers obtained ladders from neighbouring properties and used them to rescue four people."
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody at this time.
Two women aged 37 and 70 remain in a critical condition, while two children, aged 7 and 10, are in a stable condition.
While I am extremely proud of their actions, my thoughts, and those of all of us in the police service, are with those who remain in hospital today.
