South African auction house edges into London market
Briefly

Despite the artist's formative connection to London, his works had never been on show there until the opening of Strauss & Co's exhibition. Preller's diverse influences are visible in his art, which include Egypt, ancient Greece, the Etruscans, the early Renaissance period, and southern and central Africa.
Strauss & Co views Preller as a 'missing Modernist' and places him within the context of global Surrealism. Alastair Meredith, the auction house's head of art department, believes Preller fits under the Surrealist banner due to his diverse influences and artistic expression.
