Archaeologists recently discovered part of a 2,000-year-old Roman basilica beneath an office block at 85 Gracechurch Street, London. This structure was once a key venue for public and administrative life in Roman London. The discovery has led to developers collaborating with the Museum of London Archaeology to integrate the ruins into new development plans, which now include a public exhibition space. Experts emphasize the basilica's significance in understanding London's origins and its historical role as Britain's capital.
This building will tell us so much about the origins of London, why London grew and why it was chosen as the capital of Britain. It's just amazing.
As a result of the discovery we have been working with the site developers and architects to revise plans for the development to incorporate the archaeological remains.
