Alex Ogden, with 39 previous convictions, was jailed for 32 months for a homophobic hate crime involving a knife attack and abusive comments.
The victim received a five-year restraining order against Ogden, who will be on licence post-release, while Detective Ridley applauded the conviction's successful outcome.
