PC Liam Newman, a Metropolitan Police officer, denied charges of grievous bodily harm after he was accused of using a Taser on Leonard Sandiford, leading to life-changing injuries.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigated the incident, which occurred in April 2022, and concluded that PC Newman's actions warrant legal scrutiny.
Newman's case was presented at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded not guilty, and he received unconditional bail pending his next court date in December.
While chasing a suspect, PC Newman allegedly deployed a Taser, resulting in the 61-year-old victim falling from an elevated structure, according to police accounts.
