M25: New closure dates for motorway announced as project delayed by 'extreme weather'
Briefly

The M25 project aimed at adding extra lanes on Junction 10 in Surrey has faced a nine-month delay due to extreme weather conditions. Scheduled for closures on weekends in March, these interruptions will affect traffic flow, especially for those traveling to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. National Highways is aiming to complete the project, which is expected to enhance traffic conditions and safety. However, experts express concern over potential gridlock as motorists are likely to avoid road closures, resulting in further delays through residential areas.
Periods of extreme weather in 2024 delayed some elements of our work but since then we've worked hard to recoup that time and still complete the on-road elements on schedule.
Motorists who've grown used to the queues and closures associated with this scheme must now brace themselves for another summer, autumn and winter of discontent as the completion of work slips into 2026.
We are already seeing some of the benefits of this project, which will help reduce congestion, create a smoother flow of traffic and provide safer journeys for thousands every day.
The closure was to allow the demolition and removal of two old bridges as part of the scheme.
