Drivers abandoned their vehicles in the Blackwall Tunnel following a van fire, causing an emergency evacuation and significant traffic delays. Although the fire was put out by 1:20 pm, major queues formed from Greenwich to Poplar.
The van was completely destroyed in the blaze that broke out around midday, prompting the closure of the northbound lane. Fortunately, the driver escaped without injury before the fire brigade arrived.
London Ambulance Service responded promptly to the incident, sending multiple resources, including an ambulance crew and members of the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). However, the patient declined treatment.
The fire brigade confirmed that the blaze was extinguished by 1:20 pm, and no injuries were reported from the incident, although the aftermath led to significant traffic disruption.
