London Fire Brigade's new policy states that firefighters will only respond to automatic fire alarms in non-residential buildings if someone confirms a fire is actually happening.
LFB's assistant commissioner, Craig Carter, emphasized that the change allows firefighters to focus on vital prevention activities, reducing attendance at false alarms which constitute 40% of calls.
This policy, effective during daytime hours, aims to enhance efficiency by ensuring resources are concentrated on genuine emergencies while still protecting locations where people sleep.
The change aligns LFB with other UK fire services, making safety more efficient by addressing the high percentage of automatic alarms that are false.
