More than 300 members of the Metropolitan Police staff have initiated a two-week strike due to a dispute over hybrid working policies. The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union reported that staff from the referencing and vetting team were notified their pay would be docked if they continued to work from home. The new policy, requiring a significant in-office presence, affects 2,400 employees. PCS general secretary Fran Heathcote criticized the police's management for their counterproductive stance and emphasized that members felt compelled to strike due to punitive measures regarding pay.
This hardline approach by Met Police managers has been completely counterproductive, effectively escalating the dispute.
Our members take their jobs very seriously and didn't want to disrupt the important work they do but now feel their hands have been forced.
