More than 300 civilian staff at the Metropolitan Police have begun a two-week strike over a controversial flexible working policy, precipitated by threats of pay reductions. Workers from the referencing and vetting team have pushed back against increased in-office attendance days deemed unnecessary. Union leaders express frustration over perceived disrespect from management. The Met Police has stated they are disappointed but have plans to ensure frontline services remain unaffected while continuing discussions to resolve the conflict. The situation reflects broader issues of worker rights and management practices within the police force.
The irony of this strike will not be lost on our hard-working members, who are out on the streets of London 24 hours a day, seven days a week keeping the capital safe.
Our hard-working members in the Met are angry as they believe they have been continually disrespected and ignored by their bosses.
The only way for Met managers to avoid the disruption of two weeks' strike action is to get around the table and to listen to members' concerns.
We are disappointed the PCS feels such action is necessary and we remain committed to continuing to engage with the trade unions to resolve the dispute.
