A significant infrastructure project has successfully replaced a 150-year-old bridge over the railway near Hackney Downs station. The closure of the railway for 16 days during the summer facilitated the demolition of the old structure and the construction of a new, robust bridge, which is expected to endure for over a century. This crucial upgrade not only allows for the safe passage of thousands of rail and road users but also includes the reopening of Downs Park Road and Bodney Road for different modes of traffic, marking a successful collaboration between Network Rail and contractor Murphy.
The new bridge is expected to last for more than a century, with a design life of 120 years, affording safety and reliability for future journeys.
Engineers needed the 16-day railway closure to demolish the old bridge and construct a new structure, ensuring minimal disruption for future travelers.
