The first Bukhara Biennial, starting on September 5, aims to rejuvenate the city as a cultural center on the Silk Road. Over 10 weeks, international and Uzbek artists, including Antony Gormley and Jenia Kim, will showcase site-specific exhibitions and workshops. Curated by Diana Campbell, the event aims to highlight Uzbekistan's rich history through modern artistic expressions, including Kim's unique designs inspired by her family's migration story. This initiative, backed by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, seeks to strengthen Bukhara’s role in contemporary art globally.
“The Bukhara Biennial is an exciting opportunity to revive the cultural heritage of Central Asia and establish Bukhara as a center for contemporary art in this region.”
“Jenia Kim’s designs not only showcase the artistry of Uzbek textiles but also echo the historical migrations that shaped this diverse cultural landscape.”
