Kiernan Hughes-Mason has been convicted following a brutal assault on a two-year-old girl that resulted in life-changing brain injuries, requiring her to have 24-hour care.
During the attack in January 2020, responders found the child unresponsive, with injuries described by doctors as similar to those from a high-speed traffic accident.
Hughes-Mason, who once played professionally for various football clubs, was found guilty in Basildon Crown Court of child cruelty and causing grievous bodily harm.
The toddler, initially assessed by paramedics after a reported fall, was quickly discovered to have sustained extensive injuries, leading to her being placed in a coma.
