Planned strike action by Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVAs) in Tower Hamlets has been paused as discussions continue regarding proposed redundancies. The workers from Solace Women's Aid had overwhelming support for strike action due to plans that could reduce the team by one-third, potentially jeopardizing vital services for domestic abuse survivors. Tower Hamlets, with high domestic abuse rates, has seen community rallies in support of the IDVAs. The charity has halted the redundancy process until March 3 to allow meaningful negotiations with the council and unions.
It's heartbreaking because we should be building services, we should be investing in these services rather than taking them away, crime is going to go up and we're going to have more deaths.
The proposals would mean the team could be cut by a third and warned that it would have a "catastrophic impact" on its users.
