City Hall hears 'grave concerns' over change in police response to mental health calls

Under RCRP, originally developed by Humberside Police, officers continue to respond to calls where there is a real and immediate risk to life or of serious harm - either to the person themselves or to people around them.
Met commander for public protection Kevin Southworth said that before RCRP, mental health calls were putting a huge strain on our frontline, as police were resorting to arresting people under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act as many as 700 times per month.
