Bexley road to close for 10 days for Thames Water works
Briefly

Fraser Road in Bexley will be shut for 10 days due to water pipe installation aimed at enhancing the local water supply infrastructure. This project, scheduled from February 10 to 23, is part of a larger initiative to lay 3.6 kilometers of pipeline to accommodate anticipated water demand growth from 54 million to almost 90 million liters per day by 2050. Road closures will lead to diversions, but footpaths will remain open, and efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience to residents, as outlined by the Thames Water spokesperson.
We appreciate road closures are inconvenient and we're sorry for any disruption this may cause. We'll try to keep inconvenience to a minimum and will notify residents before work starts on their road.
The closure is part of a wider project, running from September 2024 to October 2027, aimed at upgrading Bexley's water infrastructure, making the new pipeline essential.
With new homes and businesses planned for the borough, demand for water is expected to rise from 54 million litres per day to nearly 90 million litres per day by 2050.
Work is being carried out in sections of a variety of roads at around 100 metres at a time. Diversion routes will be in place to keep traffic moving.
