In the wake of a missed opportunity in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, manager Arne Slot expressed dissatisfaction with Darwin Nunez's work rate. While Slot acknowledged that misses are part of the game, he was disappointed with how Nunez reacted post-miss, noting that it affected his usual effort levels. Slot highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong mindset, using teammate Wataru Endo as an example. He reassured Nunez of his significance in the squad, especially with Liverpool's title aspirations in the balance.
I can accept every miss, especially from a player that has scored two very important goals. It's a chance so it's not 100 percent sure the ball goes in.
What was harder for me to accept was his behaviour after that chance. I think it got too much in his head and he wasn't the usual Darwin that works his a** off.
I always truly believe that it's best to have Wata's mindset, for the whole season he doesn't stop playing, keeps on going and is ready whenever we need him.
I will stress to Nunez how important he will be during the title run-in, with Liverpool eight points clear of Arsenal.
