Following Jurgen Klopp's announcement to leave Liverpool, pundits speculated about a tumultuous transition. However, under new manager Arne Slot, the team has thrived, holding a solid lead in the Premier League. Forward Cody Gakpo highlighted Slot's calm, tactically sound approach, which builds upon Klopp’s groundwork. He praised the complete capability of the midfield players and indicated a shift in playing strategy, favoring patience and precision over long balls. Gakpo also credited his own strong performance to Slot's decision to play him in his preferred left-wing position.
This process, of course, started under Klopp, and now Slot is building on that foundation. He's a very down-to-earth manager, calm and composed.
If you look at our midfield... they're all complete midfielders. They can do it all: run, win duels, and find each other between the lines.
With Klopp we would more often play a long ball and then fight, but now that we're playing with more patience, you can fully see how much quality our midfield has.
I've put my strong performance down to Slot's use of me, reinstalling me back in my natural left-wing berth.
