During a Liverpool Premier League victory celebration, a car drove into a crowd, injuring around 50 people and leaving four critically ill. The driver, a 53-year-old man from the Liverpool area, was arrested. Mayor Steve Rotheram noted the city's mood shifted from shock to relief that there were no fatalities. Key figures, including the Prime Minister and former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, expressed condolences. Police have cordoned off the area for investigation, confirming it is not being treated as a terrorism-related incident.
Scenes of joy turned to utter horror and devastation, and my thoughts and the thoughts of the whole country are with all of those that are affected.
There are still four people who are very, very ill in hospital and we are hoping of course that they pull through very, very quickly.
