In a recent letter, Zuckerberg asserted that in 2021, the Biden Administration pressured Facebook for months to censor COVID-19-related content, including humor and satire, showing their frustration when Facebook resisted. He emphasized that despite this pressure, the final decision to remove content rested with Facebook, asserting, “I believe the government pressure was wrong and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it.” He clarified that Facebook made choices they wouldn’t make today with additional context.
Zuckerberg also indicated a regret regarding Facebook's decision to demote the New York Post article about Hunter Biden's laptop, which had been accused of being Russian disinformation. He noted, 'We acted on the FBI's warnings about a potential disinformation operation, yet with hindsight, some choices we made as a response to these pressures might not have been made today if we had known then what we know now.'
