Skadden's Email Policy In The Wake Of Trump Deal Triggers Government Investigation - Above the Law
Briefly

Skadden's controversial deal with the Trump administration to provide $100 million in pro bono services has raised concerns over executive orders affecting Biglaw firms. Following this, the firm restricted associates' email capabilities, inadvertently revealing its plans via a mass email. This has led the National Institute for Workers' Rights to file an unfair labor practice charge against Skadden, claiming it infringed upon associates' rights to discuss workplace conditions and diversity issues, as some lawyers expressed concerns over hiring practices.
As the filing notes, "Associates used firm email to discuss these changes, submit resignations, plan coordinated rejections of recruitment activities, and express concerns about the impact on what they do."
"In expressing concern about backing away from diversity initiatives, some Skadden lawyers were indicating that they thought it was important to continue to try to hire more lawyers of color," the group said.
