Multiple major U.S. publishers, including Vox, The Atlantic, Business Insider, McClatchy, Slate and Advance Publications, filed antitrust lawsuits against Google in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, with the cases consolidated. The plaintiffs seek unspecified damages in addition to millions sought by publishers already in the multidistrict litigation that began in 2021; new cases must be added by spring. The consolidated complaints allege Google monopolized competition in online display advertising services in violation of federal antitrust law, with some individual suits also asserting fraud and other claims. Plaintiffs cite a district court ruling that Google illegally monopolized the ad tech market; Google called the allegations meritless.
