Trans darts star hits back at haters at World Darts Championship
"I basically only got out of bed when I was hungry. Then I'd grab a bag of chips, lie back down, and Netflix all day,"
"Helping others matters more to me than thinking about myself. If there's even one person who thinks: I'm not crazy, I'm allowed to be myself, then all the misery is worth it."
"At a certain point I was convinced that all people were scary and s*****. I just had nothing left to fall back on."
"a biological man"
Noa-Lynn Van Leuven is a 29-year-old trans professional darts player who became the first trans player to qualify for the 2024 World Championships. She has faced targeted online hate, opponents withdrawing to avoid facing her, and a WDF ban in July that bars trans women from women's competitions, restricting her to Open events. The Professional Darts Corporation has not changed its policy. Van Leuven experienced severe depression after the previous World Championship but recovered with help and now prioritizes helping others. National players Anca Zijlstra and Aileen de Graaf refused to play her, calling her "a biological man," which she found incredibly painful.
